(Is that how you spell swag?)
A few months ago we hired an awesome graphic designer. He was toiling away at the massive compound one mile from our office in Redmond WA where his talents were being sucked from him. (yes, that compound, that company, that Redmond WA). You have seen some of his work on the new localism and the New new localism.
His latest project has been to design a Localism/AR land rush T-shirt. I'm not at liberty to show you the design just yet, as it is TOP Secret. However, I am at liberty to let you know:
Every ActiveRain member that sponsors a minimum of 5 communities/cities on the day their state Land Rush takes place will receive a free Localism/AR T-shirt.
(for members in the states/provinces that went Monday, or Thursday in WA, and may have sponsored one or two more just to get the shirt, you have all day today to get your total to five)
This is the first time we have produced anything like this. What can you do with your new Localism/AR T-shirt? The possibilities are endless..........
- You could wear it......I know, I know....how boring.
- You could use it as a flag to surrender to the British
- You could tie it around your head in the last mile of your marathon to keep the sweat out of your eyes (or like me, in the first 100 yards of your 100 yard dash)
- You could send it back to us, have us autograph it, then burn it as a sign of your frustration at not having 'that great post' you wrote get featured
- You could cut the sleeves off it, cut a few hole is the back and rip it off in your next backyard wrestling match ala Hulk Hogan (that one was for you Sardi)
I'm serious, the possibiities are endless!!!
Yesterdays Land Rush went better than we anticipated. Our members secured over 1300 of their favorite communities. It was very exciting for us to see there are people out there that are starting to understand our vision for Localism. Jorgen, the lead developer on the project, is now on to programming his butt off to add the cool tools and features that will truly make Localism the World's first Neighborpedia and give you what you need to engage and connect with your communities.
I want to personally thank everyone that participated yesterday and last Thursday. Your support is not lost on us, we appreciate it more than I can put into words. Thank you!!
Friends, followers, and connections are the way of the future.

Instead, maybe invest the money from the land rush into fixing Localism rather than TV shirts? Just an idea. ;)
I would wear my Localism shirt while running the trail in my target city!!! Can you say..."Free advertising"!!!
Betina
Jesse,
We are putting plenty of money into the development of Localism. We have always worked with an itterative programming style. Because we want to be able to adapt to the suggestions of our members, our code base is something that we can easily build on. The tools and features that we will add over the coming weeks and months will make a $9 investement in a community/city well worth it. And if you don't think so, you can always cancel at any time.
Betina,
We built ActiveRain saying "Free Advertising" almost every hour of every day :-)
wow a t-shirt?? sounds pretty neato! what cities/communites have sponsors already? i would love to check out their localism sites
Bob, can I have mine wet, pweeeeeze:-)
BTW: the look of the new site is awesome!!!! A first truly unique yet pretty thing I've seen in a while...
Bob, OK, I want a t shirt. But more than that I want the photos in my localism posts to show up. Please? Pretty please? With a cherry on top?
Do AR developers also get a t-shirt, "I got trampled by the Localism land rush"?
Bob - Today is the first day I have had a channce to view the new Localism. It is certainly an improvement visually and I have learned that I will need to reformat my future blog topics for a better fit.
Do you need the address to ship my three (3) T-shirts? I need to call you anyway...
I'll use mine as designer oilrags in the garage... Not.
I purchased FOUR! Hmmmm, is it worth it for one more?
Bob, Like JB, I had only purchased 4 - so I am going over now to buy my broken county (hint, hint Rich!), because I am a sucker for tshirts that I don't wear :) but it can join the Zillow tee from David G on the wall.
Now, how many do I have to buy to get it autographed before you send it out?
gotta love a free t-shirt...I can't tell you the things I've done in my life for a free t-shirt...makes me think back to college
Yeah I get a free shirt how cool. Man the adrenaline was pumping as I feverishly clicked on cities and communties. I might have gone a little crazy but figured rather secure it now and let it go later if I wanted to. :)Thanks for the great work!!!
Sounds awesome!
I am guessing AR is going to sell the t-shirts as well give them out as not all members will be able to secure or sponsor their communities on Localism....just a thought since the possibilities of what to do with the t-shirts are endless!
Wooo hoooo. I purchased 5 even before I knew I'd get a T-shirt for it. Sweet. Can I get mine autographed pull-eeeeze?
Now you say that about t-shirts...I think I deserve one anyway :)
It IS all about ME right? LOL!
How many tee shirts do I get? LOL Congrats! I am thrilled for you guys!
Or...
We could stuff Blogging Bertha's big boobies in it. Knowing her she'll turn it into a low cut V neck :)
On a more serious note:
When it comes to the Tee are Blog Boy and I considered one entity?
If so, you owe me a Tee (or two)...And I'm glad I am not the only who's going to do Tees in the Rain :)
TLW...ROAR!
OH...
One medium and one Jumbo for the he/she :)
TLW...ROAR!
Oh - Oh Sounds like TLW is starting a wet AR Tee shirt contest! Film at 11:00?
hey, I'll advertise for ya- just send me a shirt!! Size Medium at the moment...but working my way to a small :)
seriously - send me one!
Bob - You have seen Dan in his a/r t-shirt, seems to me you would pay him not to wear it.
Great. Make me up a t-shirt that says, "I spent $400.00 something dollars and all I got was this darn T-shirt!".
Just kidding.
My kids will love them. I assume that I will get 1 for Washington and 1 for Georgia??? Yes??? I should hope so.
Bring on the Broker Bryant wet t-shirt contest!!!!!!!!! =]
Jessica Horton? Wow, mark your calendars...I've seen her and Lenza pop in today. Ya'll must be doing something right :)
thanks Bob.......how cool - I'll be expecting my t-shirt in the mail shortly then! :-)
Liz,
I am such a HUGE fan of the City of Vancouver that I may have to drop your T-shirt off on my next trip up there :-)
(kidding of course as I don't get up nearly as often as I wish I could)
I get a tee shirt! Alright! Looking forward to the success of Localism!
Oh, Bob.... you have no idea what you've started. I'm seeing Busty Bertha in a wet AR tee. Geez Louise. I need a drink!
Yippee! Could I have mine autograped, Then I could sell it for big bucks on e-bay!
Just kidding, I'll keep it... Is it one size fits all?
I said "wet teashirt" first - I am just sayin...:-)
I was on immediately to sponsor, and not one of my communities was available...how do i still get a tshirt?
Bob, Oh goodie! I love free t-shirts:) Better yet a Localism T-Shirt! Can I have mine autographed too? Start those hand exercises.....I see alot of us are requesting autographs!
Bob you are too much, lol. (and thanks ) What are the odds that both of my teams are your rivals! but, Hey - I do plan on picking Seattle's defense/special teams for one of my fantasy teams - cut a girl some slack, haha.
land rush here I come...
I am glad people are buying the communities. I want you guys to be successful
How many have you sold so far? What happened to the awesome tally on the fron page? I loved it!
BOB, I'm a Medium, but I would like a large or maybe a small. Blogging Bertha has given me a chest complex. :0)
Looking forward to the option tomorrow at 12:15.
Bob...
You ROCK...with all that's on your plate, you still had time for "little ol me:)
Bob- I've already sponsored my whole town (BTW- thanks for your help on the phone. I can't wait for the additional editing tools), but the T-shirt incentive, almost had me going after additional, smaller, marketing areas. The researcher in me, checked keyword searches and there just aren't enough to justify the purchase. ;-( Still....for a Localism/AR T-shirt. I have 'til 3 AM (EDT) to decide.
Bob you'd be worth the wait - and I go to Seattle a few times a year....or La Conner.........we should make a point to meet lunch and do the exchange........maybe by that time Sylvie Conte will be here from Toronto and we can make it a threesome...:-)
Hmmmm now I read this...so of course I miss out on the t-shirt...hey does helping other members buy communities count.... LOL :) Oh, and I say give Matt 2 shirts for getting trampled :)
BOB - I hadn't planned on sponsoring any communities because I was waiting to see what the value is. Now I can comfortably spend $45, knowing full well that if no business comes from the sponsorship, that I at least have a t-shirt for my troubles.
This will be the most expensive t-shirt I ever bought! The good news is, I have sponsored all 5 of the cities in our county so no one else can get them. The bad new is...our whole county doesn't even have 40,000 people. Let's see....$1 per person per month...this is deductible right? (Still hoping us country bumpkins will get a break on sponsoring a small county.) Regardless of the cost, it's a great thing you're doing here and I'm glad to be a part of it all. I'm already getting a few locals mentioning finding me on localism, and I'm just getting started. Oh, and I'll definitely need a size large.
I like the Land Rush moniker.....makes it exciting to see this concept rolling out.
I wish we could customize them with our communities on them! I'm on to buy mine today...can't wait!
I have yet another use...
I think I need to hang one from a tree and shoot it. That's a TLW vid waiting to happen :)
TLW...ROAR!
Stew- I was told t-shirts work great for dusting....My question is do they have a wifebeater version for slaybaugh?
Cant wait for land rush here! Wow, you even get the T shirt!!! :)
Also Bob, will there be a special edition peach shirt for Crouch? We discussed putting the pit stained peach shirts on ebay...I bet one w/AR logo on it would bring us even more money!
Lisa:
Hey girl! How are you? Got that 1 bedroom condo yet???? =p
I like to pop in from time to time and see what all has changed and what all hasn't.
You going to NAR?
Firstly Bob, I agree....you should all use your t-shirts to surrender to the British :-P
Secondly, how can I get a tshirt? I can't sponsor a community! ;-)
Hi there - I may have to add in order to get my shirt - I'll wear it to the gym!
Bob - Will there be a field added to our member profiles where we can select the size of the T-Shirt? :-)
Poppy,
I may be able to swing something for our overseas friends :-)
Tony,
You may have just solved a big problem we were having! Thanks!!
TLW- did you like my plea for your custom design one? I am shocked not a peep from Bob either...
Bob, you might as well expand to the UK at this point and let Poppy start sponsoring her communities! :)
Bob - Okay, totally not fair...lol, I am under population 40,000 with only one community to directly purchase...okay, land rush starts soon, let's see what I can come up with !
Bob, what a deal. I sponsored 11. Now a T-shirt. I'll take XL.
We bought 17 on the first day, in the first hour, in the first minutes. Phew..
When will the t-shirt arrive and where do we input our shipping adress info. Thanks for the T-SHIRT!
